After decades in the pharmaceutical industry, he was semi-retired, financially comfortable, and quietly proud of the careful choices that had got him there.<\/p><p>Then he looked at his son, Tom.<\/p><p>\u201cHe\u2019s 32, works in the creative industry, and it\u2019s been a rollercoaster for him,\u201d John says. \u201cHe was stuck renting a room in a shared house in London, and it was making him very low. At that age, you just want your own space. According to the Office for National Statistics, the average private rent in the UK hit \u00a31,339 a month in May 2025, up 7% in a year. In London, the figure was even higher at \u00a32,253, making it the most expensive region to rent in the country. For many, saving for a deposit feels impossible.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ca09abb e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"ca09abb\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b850430 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b850430\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u201cI was actually worried for my son\u2019s mental health. I realised the most meaningful thing I could do was to gift him a \u00a3100,000 deposit to help him buy his own place. It felt like a big decision, but waiting until I\u2019m gone helps no one. What\u2019s the good in that? As the saying goes, there\u2019s no point being the richest person in the cemetery.\u201d<\/p><p>Still, it wasn\u2019t a decision made lightly.<\/p><p>John had worked with his Pinnacle Wealth Management Adviser for many years.
